LipoSculpt Q & A
Don't be fooled by alternative treatments that claim visible results through "natural" or "noninvasive" procedures. The liposculpture procedures using Smart Lipo and Vaser Lipo are the closest to noninvasive that is available today. The procedure is performed in the doctor's office quickly, safely and allows for great results that are permanent.
Dr. Denzel has chosen Vaser Lipo SmartLipo after studying the pros and cons of various methods of Liposuction. Here are some key points:
Am I a good candidate for LipoSculpt?
Ideal candidates are healthy, with a body weight near normal and have a realistic expectation of the outcome. If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you are a candidate for SmartLipo or Vaser Lipo. Also, if you are overweight, you will still see an impressive result. We consider this a “de-bulking” and a beginning to your to your new healthier lifestyle.
What body regions can be treated with LipoSculpt?
SmartLipo and Vaser Lipo can sculpt and tighten the abdomen, flanks, hips, love handles, bra roll, back, ankles, male breasts, inner and outer thighs, saddle bags, neck, jowls, parts of arms and corset overspill.
Does LipoSculpt treat cellulite?
The procedure will improve the bodys shape, tighten loose or sagging skin, and may improve cellulite to a certain degree.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically only one treatment is required per area, for most patients.
How many areas can I do at one time?
Dr. Denzel will be able to discuss this with you during your consultation, after we review your height, weight, medical history, and where your areas of concern are. For most patients, we can do one large area and one smaller area (i.e. upper/lower abs and neck) in one procedure. Doing this ensures a better result.
Why SmartLipo or Vaser Lipo vs. Traditional Liposuction?
Unlike traditional Liposuction, SmartLipo Laser Assisted Liposuction and Vaser Liposuction does not require IV sedation, which significantly decreases the risk of complication. Other advantages include less recovery time and tighter skin in the treated area.
Does it hurt?
During the procedure, at most, you may experience a feeling similar to being pinched or poked. After the numbing has worn off, it may feel like the aches and pains that follow a strenuous workout and/or sunburn.
Will I be sedated?
Yes. Dr Denzel administers a light sedative which is given orally. Most patients remain awake and converse with Dr. Denzel and the assistant during procedures. If you are more sensitive or nervous, we can adjust your comfort level accordingly.
How long does a procedure take?
The session may last from 1 to 2 hours for each area treated.
How does the LipoSculpt procedure work?
LipoSculpt is a minimally invasive, three-part procedure. First, once the patient is comfortably sedated, a very small cannula tube is inserted through tiny incisions. The doctor will infiltrate the area with a saline and lidocaine solution, which causes numbing. Second, a different cannula tube containing a laser fiber or ultrasound is inserted through the same incisions and moved throughout the treated area, rupturing fat cells and coagulating small blood vessels on contact. The energy also works to tighten skin and prevent blood loss. Lastly, liquefied fat cells and any remaining saline fluid is removed through an aspiration tube and cannula.
Is LipoSculpt Safe?
LipoSculpt is safer than traditional Liposuction because with the new state of the art Laser and ultrasound technology, the tumescent technique has no IVs, no anesthetic drugs (besides local numbing) and virtually no blood loss, eliminating many of the risks associated with general anesthesia. The patient is awake and able to talk with the doctor and staff.
Do I have to do anything post-treatment?
Transportation is required and can be arranged by our staff, if friends or family are not available. We also have TRAVEL ACCOMODATIONSavailable for those traveling. A one week follow up is required. We also recommend one, three and six month follow ups.
When can I resume normal activities like work and exercise?
Patients typically return to work immediately, almost like a “lunchtime Liposuction”. Although we recommend a day or two of rest, you may return to your normal activity while avoiding vigorous exercise for two weeks. This is unlike in traditional Liposuction where a patient feels as if “run over by a truck.” Incisions are hidden and are so tiny that no stitches are needed, therefore no unsightly scars occur. Eventually, it would be very hard to find the insertion points or tell by looking at the skin that any Liposuction has ever been done. There is no in office recovery time, you’re awake and able to walk out with your friend or family member.
What are the side effects?
LipoSculpt is a minimally invasive surgical procedure; therefore after the treatment you may have swelling and a little soreness for an average of 30 days. Because the SmartLipo treatment is a laser-assisted lipolysis procedure and Vaser is an ultrasound-assisted lipolysis procedure, there is nearly no bleeding during the procedure and minimal afterwards, so bruising rarely occurs.
When can I expect to see results?
Healing begins the moment Dr. Denzel puts down the cannula. Results can be seen Immediately with continued improvement as the swelling decreases and skin tightens.
Does Laser or Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction produce lasting results?
Yes! An adult body does not form new fat cells. When a person gains and losses weight, the fat cells expand and contract. The LipoSculpt procedure permanently removes the fat cells. Should you gain weight, most fat will be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.
Vaser Lipo
An FDA approved method of fat removal uses gentle ultrasonic energy to selectively break apart fatty tissue while preserving important tissues like nerves, blood vessels and collagen. This technology enables a wide range of body contouring applications – from major transformations to small, problem areas; ensuring patients a fast recovery and improved skin retraction. Vaser Lipo can be performed in-office under local anesthesia and has a proven record of clinical effectiveness and safety.
SmartLipo uses an FDA-approved microscopic laser to liquefy fat, simultaneously coagulate blood vessels, and tighten skin. This major technological evolution allows minimal downtime with most patients returning to work in two days. A local anesthetic is used to provide a relaxed procedure with patients walking in and out. The fiber-optic cannula is inserted through a small incision in the skin, usually along creases that conceal the scar. SmartLipo presents smoother results with less swelling and bruising than what occurs with traditional Liposuction.
